treehugger tote

Reuse is the word of the day! (Screw Recycle and Reduce, Reuse is the way to be.)

This little tote is made completely out of old plastic bags and such that I "fused" together, as shown by Etsy Labs, here. Absolutely brilliant, isn't it?

The strap-y things are the tie from the hood of a Maid of the Mist poncho.

Let's hear a hip hip hooray for reusing, shall we? :)

sky umbrella

I think this umbrella would make me smile on Ithaca's rainy days, don't you? :)

I only wish the outside was a pretty color, or had a cute print, but it's kind of the point not to, I guess.

harry potter "spoiler alert T's"!

We made and wore these t-shirts for the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book release last night at midnight and B&N. Aren't they cute? :)

The backs say "SPOILER ALERT" and each of us has our own spoiler, mostly taken from other movies and stuff. I was "Harry is schizo." Each of us has a crest on the right sleeve and a character name on the left. They were iron ons, and they turned out super well! :)

Our "HP7 Spoilers":
  • Harry is a schizo.
  • Dumbledore kills Snape.
  • Gryffindor wins the Stanley Cup!!
  • It was all a dream...
  • Rosebud is the last Horcrux.
  • Harry sees dead people.
I don't really get the rosebud thing... really need to watch that movie some time! :)

two new crafties!

So I discovered this site called Craftster, I'm not sure if I've posted it before. Anyways, it's a great community and there's a bunch of sweet tutorials on it and stuff. Here's some that I've tried!

I made this purse organizer from this tutorial. My camera fits in it too, but obviously I had to use it to take the picture!

Next up is this wallet tutorial. It's great and super cute! I didn't have velcro for it though. It's great as is, anyways! :)

The bumble bee print is a Winnie the Pooh classic! I'm going to make more! Yay! :)

Essays by John Parry

I spent a good chunk of my afternoon reading these essays on one Mr. John Parry's website. The best word I could possibly think of to describe them would be "delightful", a word that I don't use much, and sounds slightly pretentious, but it's the closest to perfect that I have in my current vocabulary.

The essays are all very interesting and defend things that are commonly frowned upon, like procrastination, messy desks, and monolinguals (aka. Americans). Those ones were my favourites!

I'm sure this link is super old (I distinctly remember reading the procrastination one ages ago), but I loved it, so enjoy! :)

think green!

Hey there, I'm just here to post up a quick link to something I hope to make sometime soonish... basically it's a tutorial for reusable shopping bags. This is a great idea that has been around for a long time, that people just never seen to get around to doing. Anyways, maybe I'll make a set for the apartment next year! :)

Also, from treehugger.com, I found this greendimes company thing. For $3/month, they call to take your name off mailing lists for you and plant a tree in your name. Once a month, I think. Pretty cool, huh?

This all came from a slogan brainstorming post on treehugger. There's some good ones in there! Some of my favourites:
  • Will work for trees
  • Plants and Animals died to make room for your fat ass!
  • PDE: Public Displays of Environmentalism
  • hear the eco
  • Every time history repeats itself, the price goes up.
  • [pic of Earth] Love it or Leave it!
  • [pic of Volcano] We don't just save Earth, we make some new every day!
  • It's easy being green. [pic of frog]
  • I brake for litter.
  • Get off your ass and save some gas!
  • Make trees not stumps.
  • We have an environment?
  • Save a tree, hug me instead!
I emailed the guys at treehugger to see if these were publicly available and stuff. I'd love to put some of these slogans on a tote bag or t-shirt at cafepress (more for making this stuff available to the masses than for the tiny monetary reward, but I can't deny that it would be a perk. :P) or something! :)

Friends don't let friends eat grocery store ice cream.

So, I think I will restart this blog, out of all of my others, because it's super easy to use and is now connected to my Google Account! Of course, it's not on Livejournal so my friends won't get automatic updates, but you win some, you lose some.

Basically I'm writing in a blog because I want to keep track of all the things I say I'm going to do. Like crafting, organizing, cleaning, reading, organizing, and more organizing.

For now, here's my first craft project in a while!

It's a tote bag (obviously!) made out of old t-shirts! The white is a Cold Stone Creamery t-shirt given to me by a friend who works there. It was a large, and therefore unnecessarily HUGE, so I never wore it. I finally turned it into a bag a few days ago, which was the only reason I held onto it for 2 years! (and, of course, my deep love of my Cold Stone worker bee friend)

Anyways, I got the pattern out of Generation T. It's a pretty cool book full of t-shirt projects. You should check it out if you're into this kind of stuff! :)
